Shelly Quarmby

Shelly Quarmby is writing new material to record her debut album in the New Year. She has moved from rural England to record in Toronto, Canada and is loving singing in the city. Shelly trained classically originally, having a wide interest in the arts; she trained in ballet and studied Performing Arts. Shelly continued to advance her studies by obtaining a BA (Hons) Music and Popular Music. Her songs consist of melodic ballads with clear piano driven hooks and auto-biographical lyrics. Reminiscent of the clarity of country music singing combined with influences by the likes of Joni Mitchell folk-style vocal tone and technique; and song structure and style influenced by song writing greats such as Carole King and Jimmy Webb. Her ultimate idol, "vocally" she says, is Linda Ronstadt and she aspires to female singer-songwriter's, amongst her favourites are Beth Nielsen-Chapman, Vonda Shepard, Chantal Kreviazuk, Paula Cole and Sarah Mclachlan.
