Jim O'Connor

 

 

Jim O'Connor is the lead singer and mulit-instrumentalist for the Celtic band Boston Blackthorne. Boston Blackthorne has played Celtic traditional and Irish influenced original music throughout New England for the past 10 years. Jim's song "Back When the Craic was Grand" from the band's CD Better Late than Ever, won first prize in the International Narrative Songwriting Competition (2007) and Honorable Mention in the Unisong Competition (2008). His comical tune, "Karaoke Blues" was featured on the Dr. Demento radio show.

Most of Jim's tunes are based on real life experiences. "Big Old City" chronicles his family's saga since arriving in the states in 1910 and touches on themes of emmigration, the Great Depression, and World War II. As a songwriter, Jim lives by the motto, "Don't tell it, show it". He lives in Natick MA with his wife and two teenage boys.
