A
native of Chicago, Gabrielle Schafer is lead singer and one of three
songwriters for alt-country band The Lost Cartographers. Schafer’s
songwriting style has been described as simple and straightforward,
with melodies that hook you and get under your skin. A keen observer
and storyteller, Schafer takes in her surroundings and describes
them in emotionally rich and compelling ways. “Killing Time
in Nashville” was written in just a few days while on a trip
to Nashville, where, Schafer says, “I looked around and I
was surrounded by strangers. Sometimes I find that experience liberating,
but at that moment, all I wanted to do was go home and see some
familiar faces. The song is about longing for a sense of home.”
Look for the Lost Cartographers first full-length album to be released
in August of 2008 on Imaginary Records, which will contain several
of Schafer’s original songs.
