Berklee
College of Music: 'This combination of artistic ability, professionalism
and initiative is rare indeed. Femke will make a sustained and multi-faceted
contribution to the music industry at an international level.' At
the age of 26, Femke has thrilled audiences with her songs and her
voice. Her songwriting career started at the age of 18 when she
started writing for her band 'Ambush'. It was the music of such
artists as Michael Jackson, Joni Mitchell and Paul Simon that sparked
her love of lyrics. She soon started playing the piano and the guitar.
In 1999 Femke released her first album with her band 'Ambush' and
started touring the Netherlands and Germany. After one year it was
time to release a second album, 'Your Hand', which got played on
the Dutch local and national radio. At that time Femke decided to
start a solo career. She won the Dutch National songwriting contest,
the UK songwriting contest and the Trunk & Co songwriting contest.
In 2005 she recorded the single 'Changes' in Brussels and directed
her own video-clip that got shown on Dutch national television.
After receiving her bachelor degree at 'Prins Claus Conservatory'
she started her own company in writing music and soon decided to
study at 'Berklee College of Music' in Boston. This is where she
won the Berklee Songwriting contest and the Berklee Woman Musican
contest. She now lives and rocks in Los Angeles where she is studying
for her Master in Music. Her experience, hard work, songwriting
skills and tenacity are what is taking Femke out of the ranks and
into the spotlight.
